John Evans, an explorer and surveyor named Callala Honey suckle Beach in 1846, but with the passing of time the township became known as Callala. It is thought that it was either named after the aboriginal word Kallala for fish or from one of Alexander Berry’s convicts Patrick Smith who lived in the area and was born in Calala in Ireland. Either way we spoilt to be standing here in Jervis Bay where it is claimed we have the whitest sands in the world and a breath taking view like no other.
